Default Best PvE profession combination

I am trying to think what the best combination of profession would be for PvE content for nightfalls/eye of the north that has a good combo of damage, health regen, and not have to much energy issues with high amounts or good regen. now elementalists seem to have the best damage(especially the fire spells from prophs), mesmers seem to have the best energy regen, monks seem to have the best healing. Necros have good damage/health regen spells to. i think that i should have at least elementalist or necro as one of the primary professions but not sure if energy storage or soul reaping is better for PvE.

There is no best. Play around and see what works good for you.

That being said, there are some combonations that are generally less effective (more gimicky) then others.

For instance a W/N Doesn't have many viable options save plague touch used with certain warrior skills.

As far as ES vs SR, Considering Necros run as better Searing Flames spammers with the right build, SR all the way. Necros and Paragons have the most broken energy management

Axel is right... there aren't many wrong ways to go, but your not looking for the easy cookie-cutter response. You want a tangible answer. So here is something you could use.

IMO, Necro is going to be better for you than Elementalist. Here is why: Soul Reaping is really, really powerful in PvE. Given enough mobs you are going to rarely have any problems with energy. Also, you won't have to worry as much about energy regen with SR. Though Elementalists have a great deal of energy, most of their useful spells are high cost too. There are skills that help you get around this, but it is easier to use Necromancer for your primary (not to mention you will have more variety in useful builds).

Now for your secondary class. You have a couple of solid options. You could go either Monk or Mesmer. Both are solid. the N/Me is great because using arcane echo can allow for higher damage output. Monk, however, might be a little more versatile for you. Monk has options. You could go the solo N/Mo route, the minion master, or even do a blood build. Monk can help with all of those. And since Curses builds rarely use the secondary class, you can create a good Curses build too.

Of course, you are going to run into issues with any build you use. None are infallible. That's the beauty of Guild Wars. So that being said, go with a class combo that can be versatile.

I hope that helps.

thanks, yea just looks to see what people think, i know that there is no 1 build that does everything(else everyone would use that build and the game would not be as much fun). i think that helps me a little. I think i will try necromancer as my main and sicne in nightfalls i can change my secondary profession as much as i want which i thought i could only do once i am play around with it and change around of i want.

Personally I find the Elementalist to be the easier if you are choosing between just Ele, and Necro...I never really got the swing of Necro as well as some of my friends did, but they are quite effective with it.Both Ele and Necro are pretty easy to manage energy with...PVE rarely provides a challenge once you get the hang of how everything works.PVP is a different story though, and if PVP is a thought for you eventually, you might want to weigh that in, but you said PVE so anyway...Necro also seems to have more combinations, like was said, though the Ele has several as well.

I guess it really just depends on what you personally want to do in the end, with your character.Start one of each!!Hehe...But really search around on here, and on Guildwiki, and you will see a LOT of very effective builds for every situation, in both of those classes

Go W/MO. Woohooo! [skill]Healing Signet[/skill][skill]Frenzy[/skill][skill]Mending[/skill][skill]Echo[/skill] only bar FTW!

No, I'm just joking. That is the WORST combination ever.

I'd say Necro. Best energy manage I've ever seen. With good damage, too.

As others have said there is no best, for healing you'll want something with monk...or have a monk or two in your party. I play a D/Mo because of damage and healing,I also have a E/Mo for damage and healing and a A/R to posion my blades so the enemy goes down that much faster. it all depends though on what your looking for in a PvE character. you mentioned energy and healing, well a E/mo sounds ok, but its not the "best"

Well there are a few extremely overpowered builds that could be concidered the best in the game for pve, but ofcourse only in a group (godmode paragon, splinter volley/spirit's strength rit, ursan etc)

If your looking for versatility Ranger is probly the way to go, can fill alot of different rolls in a group while many other classes suffer the '1 build to rule them all' syndrome if you want to group with other players as in ele has to nuke, warrior is tank, prefered ursan now adays, necro is mm or ss etc.

Ranger on the other hand can go from caster shutdown, spiker, pressure, heavy aoe damage etc and expertise for energy management.

Similarly to some of the responses, I'd have to ask "best for what?"

Best for zipping through the game as fast as possible? (You may as well get the least value you can out of it )

Best for fitting into PUGs? (Monk )

Or best for (solo) farming?

Best for having fun?

There is no "best" class or combination of classes. Any class or combo can make it through the entire game in Normal Mode and all classes have many "builds" to choose from to do Hard Mode as well. And, as you yourself pointed out, each class has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

Best class is the one you enjoy playing. Yes, even if that means playing an A/Mo as a healer, it would be the best for you if you enjoy it.

Read the descriptions. Playstyle and what you enjoy.

I'm always a Ranger/Ranged Guy whenever I do a RPG because

a) I'm not fast/dedicated/hate the responsibility of being one of the main roles
b) I can't decide what to be and they are usually the jack-of-all trades classes
c) chicks like Rangers

Good thing about GW is the separate campaigns. I did a ranger in Prophecies. Decided I wanted something new and rolled something else for Nightfall
